Private Acting Lessons with Jim Shedd

These sessions are helpful for teen actors looking for assistance with future auditions at school, college or the community, or just wanting to improve their skills.

Your personal instructor is Jim Shedd. Jim holds a Bachelor of Science: Theatre Education degree with a directing major from Illinois State University, as well as an Associates In Art in Theatre & Sociology from Harper College. He spent eight years with Wishing Star Theatre as an educator and four years as their resident director. Jim has directed for various children/teen theater companies/high schools throughout Illinois, and is proud to be a part of Schaumburg On Stage. He has been an active member of the company for 17 years. FAVORITE CREDITS: Green Day's American Idiot (Up & Coming Theatre – Director - "5 BroadwayWorld Awards"); Assassins (point2productions); Peter and the Starcatcher (Illinois Shakespeare Festival – Choreographer/Asst. Dir.); Edges: A Musical Song Cycle (Overboard Productions – Director/Choreographer); Shrek (point2productions - Director - “3 BroadwayWorld Nominations”).

 Jim will work with you to design your lessons to fit your needs and interests in building skills for the future, including:

 Audition technique/etiquette & callback collaboration.

  • Monologue selection and work (useful for industry auditions).
  • Shakespearean skills (from basic to advanced).
  • Musical theatre audition preparation: including song selection/acting.
  • Industry knowledge to send you on auditions for film, TV & theatre.
  • Comedy skills: including timing, writing and stand up.
  • On-camera skills.
  • Additional help with self-taping and editing.
  • Assistance with current projects (roles the actor is currently playing).
  • Guidance on college programs and scholarships.
  • Connection with guest artists and collaborators to offer another perspective.
  • Recommendation of theatrical events for the student to attend in the Chicagoland area.

 Tuition: $50/hour or $300 for 7 hours of sessions (recommended)
